WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

I don't know why so many people are making a big deal about Tasha. Nobody spent this much digital ink on Volo, Xanathar, or Mordenkainen. And her presence in the book won't be any more than their's, with the exception of a few spells.

She has more interesting lore with her dual identity??

Worse case scenario if that happens, do what I'll do if Rune Knight got nerfed hard: Use the UA version. Maybe add in the buffed portions with the non nerfed UA parts of it and there ya go!

I would just hate for it to end up wattered down and boring. Like if they just have passive bonuses instead of being able to tap into the runes for a burst effect.

To be honest, the power balance of XgtE was a little all over the place, so I would not call it powercreep.

-The Hexblade is pretty front loaded, but its later features are that great. Its a multiclass dream, but a pretty meh patron for all-in warlocks. They can almost be considered fix-patch, like the new ranger's archetypes.
  • The Zealot is a better berserker than the berserker.
  • The inquisitive, mastermind, duelist, samurai, cavalier, spirit barbarian, warmage, forge and death cleric etc are pretty balanced and dont overshadow the PHB's archetype.
  • Storm barbarian and arcane archer are not that great.
  • Some spells were a little, Healing Spirit was even modified. Most of the elemental evil spells are pretty bad.

So, all in all, I dont think this would count as powercreep. Most of the stuff from the guide plays nicely with the stuff from the PHB.
you forgot about Tiny Servant, the most potent spell in the game (ok ok, the most potent 3rd level spell in the game)

Crusty Old Meatwad (he/him)
I mean, maybe? At the time that certainly seemed like an important decision. However, with the enormous growth 5e went on to experience, people with attachment to an old-school D&D feel are now a tiny minority of players. Maybe it was an important move short-term, but long-term I’m not sure it mattered much.

I disagree. The new players who were brought in are brought into an edition which is formulated in an old school style. This is now what THEY think is the "right" kinds of tone. And you have a tone of interest in old school everything from that crowd, though they were not alive when it was new.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who didn't want to buy a whole campaign setting just for a couple of player options for whom it will be a welcome alternative way of accessing the class.
IMO Eberron has way more than a few player options, but yeah if the only thing from it someone likes (which makes them a weirdo) is Artificer, then buying a whole book for that makes no sense.
