The new player’s guide for the D&D Adventurers League has been released. Appendix 1 includes the new info from Tasha’s Cauldron on customizing your origin. It‘s a one-page appendix.

The D&D Adventurers League now uses this variant system from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything since it allows for a greater degree of customization. For ease of reference, the relevant information is included as an appendix to this document and doesn’t count against the PH + 1 rule.

You can do any of the following (obviously the full document has more detail):

1. Move your race ability score increases wherever your want to. “...take any ability score increase you gain in your race or subrace and apply it to an ability score of your choice.”​

2. Replace each language from your race with any language from a set list.​

3. Swap each proficiency for another of the same type.​

4. Alter behaviour/personality race-based descriptions.​

Its not clear if that’s the whole Lineage system or just part of it. You can download the player’s guide here.

Hmm. This actually seems very similar to what they did with World of Warcraft back in the day... and suddenly Tauren paladins were running around everywhere.
At their peak, Tauren were never more than 20% of the overall amount of Horde paladins. And certainly less than that when you group in Alliance paladins as well.

And I'd argue that more racial diversity was good for the game (the complaints of a few lore nerds aside who don't realize that lifting a restriction doesn't compromise lore.)

No. But in my honest opinion, that change won't achieve its goal. You are just shifting optimal race for wizard from one race to a different one. So its a wash.
At least there will be more dwarf wizards and artificers, now. That's not a bad thing. I'm tired of seeing so many gnomes in those roles. This will open it up to all the races now that any race can get a +2 Int.

Maybe it is a simplified and more generous system. But it is sounded as if it was a reprint of the actual rules.

Oh, I think it's taken from the book, but with less content available for organized play. They've advertised aspects of the lineage system in Tasha'sthat didn't appear here, such as rules to create a whole new Race.

Being good? Or being the best? I don't think lacking the +2 to the primary stat of choice for the class or concept precludes being good.
In some campaigns it can be a big difference. Not having a +3 in your spellcasting ability can cause enemies to fail when they would've succeeded with your spell save DC being a 12.

That is true. I also think there will be some text around that and guidelines to use those rules, which make them a lot more tolerable i hope.
