This is a short summary of various things we've learned so far about the upcoming Tasha's Cauldron of Everything.

WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

Much more excited about level up.
Yep. I was excited about this book when it was announced - well, except for the 'of Everything' title. Now that we are finding out bits about it, I'll quite happily save my money and save it for Level Up. I'll save final judgement for when I actually see the book, but it doesn't look promising at this point.

Lets see: Eloquence Bard, Glory Paladin, Spores Druid, Law Cleric, Bladesinger, Alchemist, Artillerist, Battlesmith.

I own the 3 core books, Xanathar's, Volo's, Mordenkainen's and the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide. I think only one of those (Bladesinger) is a duplicate of something I already have. I'm really happy to be getting all of these without having to buy books for settings I have no interest in.

You are correct as Bladesinger is in the Sword coast Adventurers Guide.

Do we know what the 8 reprinted subclasses are?

This is what I've heard:
  • Artificer - Alchemist (from Eberron)
  • Artificer - Artillerist (from Eberron)
  • Artificer - Battle Smith (from Eberron)
  • Bard - College of Eloquence (from Theros)
  • Cleric - Order Domain (from Ravnica)
  • Druid - Circle of Spores (from Ravnica)
  • Paladin - Oath of Glory (from Theros)
  • Wizard - Bladesinger (from Sword Coast)

because I'm paying for that content multiple times. It's not a few pages and it's content that could be something new. but, you disagree so not trying to change your mind. I care. Never said you had to. And, never said they need to change their model. It pretty much is what it is.

Those pages would not have new content instead. New content is much more expensive than reprinted content in terms of time.

Look, books like this are kind of written backwards. They already know what price point creates the best revenue. That means they know the MSRP of the book ($50). That means they know how many pages they can put into the book, probably in chunks due to how signatures work. The limitation on how many pages are actually used in the book is therefore a function of the amount of time (in the form of designer and playtester labor) that they can spend on a book.

What that means is that reprinted content is more time spent elsewhere on the other content for the book. You're not being robbed of your money. Your options are not reprinted content or new quality content. Your options are reprinted content, worse overall quality of content, or a shorter book.

I get that, but would it bother you if that content was free? I mean if the book was not planned to and never was going to have more new content than it has, and these are just extras they are giving because it is easy to do. Would that still bother you?

I ask because I tend to agree with others, I don't think the inclusion or exclusion of this content has any affect on the price.

When I buy a setting book, the new classes/subclasses are just fluff for me. All I really want is the setting. If they add rules, so much the better.

With a new book such as Tasha's the new classes and reprints are just that. It is a book to have your fluff in one place. But with all the bad things I see coming in Tasha's, It will probably be the first book that I will not buy. But I am doomed to get it anyways as my players want to buy to me as christmas gift... Go figure...
