D&D 5E Tasha’s cauldron character thread

Interestingly... the new rules don't seem to automatically apply themselves to existing characters.
I'm not surprised. A lot of people aren't going to like all of the various changes, so they should be something that a group opts into. I'm going to have to talk to the DM about the Bladesinger changes.

I like to use 10 minute short rests. Long enough to take a Short Rest OR cast a Ritual, OR force the party to make a tactical choice to take 20 minutes so the ritual casters can get a short rest also. 2 Short Rests per day. Soooometimes you find a really peaceful spot and get to take a Short Rest that doesn't count. Think Erana's Peace from Quest for Glory.

Specifically, there's a way to add "Extras" - sidekicks and such., including the Steel Defender. Statblocks for those have not updated, and don't seem dynamically linked to the character mechanics.

So, the solution is to take the Steel Defender creature they already have, and make a custom version of it. You update the custom creature when you go up in level.

Clockwork Soul Yuan-Ti whose heart has been replaced with a gear from Mechanus, making them Lawful Good is something I want to play. Or a Twilight Cleric Yuan-Ti who straddles the line between nightmare and light.

In the art, or in how they describe them? Or both?
In the art. Their skin is nearly the same colour as their hair, in at least two pictures.

Light Grey is one type of Drow color.
I've never seen it before. Then, I've only been playing FR since 5e released, and there's no drow in my homebrew world.

I do like the idea that there's variety to the individuals in all the races. Humans aren't the only ones now with a wide variety of looks. I remember arguing with people on WotC boards back in 4e who were complaining that Tieflings had huge tails "now" (because that's how 4e art showed them) and I tried to explain, "Maybe those Tieflings have big tails, but yours can look however you like!"

I like that it's pretty much explicit now that all the D&D races can have a wide variety of looks.

I made a 5th level Goliath Rune Knight Unarmed Fighter. (Temporarily named "Mister Fisticuffs" until I come up with a real name). I'd have to play it to be sure, but he seems to have some pretty sweet ways of pummelling someone into the ground. (I took Crusher at 4) THUMP THUMP!
