D&D 5E Bead of Force - 1 bead or 1d4 + 4 beads?

In the bead of force descriptor, it talks about a single bead, but then it mentions that often 1d4+4 beads are found together. So which one is assumed for a "rare" item, 1 bead or 1d4 +4?
