how much is trained a war mammoth?

Well, mounts are useful provided you can pass the riding/handle animal checks involved.

Keep in mind that elephants are dangerous even to thier keepers. They are moody and easily paniced animals. Failing a ride or handle animal check can have disasterous consequences.

Also an elephant eats alot of food and doesn't fit easily into doorways. They aren't going to follow you underground either, can't jump, and they are basically afraid of heights.

Feeding and waste

I found this description of the Modern Elephant...

Elephants are bulk feeders and inefficient
processors, and only around 50% of intake is
digested (Benedict 1936). Adult elephants
ingest around 150 kg (330 lbs) of forage every
day, feeding at all times of the day, and hence
dung is abundant (over 100 kg a day) and well
scattered over their daily range (Laws et al.
1975; Sikes 1971).

The realities of feeding and watering the beast should be a serious concern for the party that wants to keep one. The party is also going to be very easy to track.

Wait wat? Animals are hella cheap in dnd. Are we talking about 5e here?? The elephant costs just 200GP in the players handbook, and there is no way a mammoth would be more than ten times that. I would price an adult trained mammoth at 2000 for a prime specimen, as they take longer to train than elephants. Also remember they are vulnerable to attacks and useless inside buildings. They shouldn’t be that OP! Only challenge 6! The attacks don’t even do that much. I don’t know what kind of super saen mammoth your party has but if it’s the normal one in the monster manual it really shouldn’t be that op.

Chill :)

First off, this is a thirteen year old thread. Second, it now lives in the Pathfinder subforum.

Since I quite recently discussed the price of mounts, let me set a reasonable price for a PF2 Mammoth: 1,000 gp.

Why? Check out the earlier thread! :)

Don’t worry! I’m very chill. Sorry if I came across otherwise. Didn’t realise this thread was 13 years old, and also, I had no idea this was about pathfinder. SMH. I’m brand new to this thingy, and that was my first post. I am confusion. Guess I’ll just leave now...
