Hadnt seen any discussion on the new show but figure it doesn’t have a lot of buzz in general so thought I’d toss this out there in case others are watching it.

(premise for those not familiar, Alan tudyk (best known as Wash from Firefly) plays an alien that crash landed near a small town in Colorado. He kills a guy near town and assumes his identity. The town doctor is then murdered and the person Alan is assuming the identity of is the closest to a doctor so they call on him to do the autopsy and eventually to do some other doctor work around town. It’s very ‘town full of quirky people’ in meeting townsfolk and ‘fish out of water’ as The alien tries to cope with human life. Overarching Subplots include solving the original town doctors murder, the alien hiding the murder of the guy he assumed, the alien finding pieces of his ship and weapon, and the alien’s ongoing feud with the 12 year old boy whose brain waves allow him to see through the alien’s disguise)

i was not thrilled by the first episode. It had the same problem that most pilot episodes face....it needed to do a lot of scenario setup and character introductions and so on. It just felt very off, pacing wise.

but a couple episodes in now I’m enjoying it more. The doctor murder really is back seat to everything. And it is really more about the alien’s awkwardness dealing with humans and indivisible people’s issues.

the interplay between the alien and the 12 year old makes me chuckle.... but then, I spend time with kids around that age so I keep picturing kids I know in that situation saying those things.... so my perception is biased ;)

A friend told me about this, but I couldn't remember what it is showing on, and believe I don't have that service atm. I am a big Alan Tudyk fan though.

For my money, Alan Tudyk is a genius in this series, and the other actors are doing a fine job of keeping up with him. It is one of my favorites for the moment, a study in... incredible awkwardness...

It's a SyFy Channel show. In Canada it appears on the CTV SciFi Channel (CTV isn't very imaginitive with their channel branding these days).

I've been enjoying it very much and have brought a few friends onboard. For me, the first episode showed the possibilities of the premise. And the first scene at the bar? < Chef's Kiss >

I think that this pretty much summarizes the show: "Northern Exposure", except that the doctor they press into service is an alien.

Yup. And the first 3 episodes are available to stream for free in a variety of places, including the SyFy website and YouTube.

I'll watch anything with Tudyk in it. One of the few non-genre films I regularly rewatch is "Death at a Funeral" for his performance.

I'm not familiar with that one. I did sit through an entire season of Dollhouse to see what he'd do in it, though...
