Got a youngster join my game, knows 5e inside out and really puzzled by my rules/rulings and was getting confused. I let him in on a little secret I've been playing the game as close to 1e as I can make it for the past 5 years using 5e and none of my group had a clue- they were used to my style and none had realky bothered to read all the 5e rules lol.

No edition war here, move along nothing to see.

Was the arrow one of those old school 1d6 damage ones or one of those fancy, more modern d8 damage sheaf arrow ones?

Well to quote Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Bruce Springsteen, Edwin Star, The Temptations and a few others:
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for?
Nothing.

The big question is, who did it best?

Of course we all have our preferred editions. But I think that the way we talk about them is important. Whenever we launch into the story of, “I play XYZ games because reasons,” we’re talking about what we prefer, not what is objectively best. It’s about finding the right game for the right person, not about finding the right game period. That’s why, when it comes time to compare systems, I always try to speak in terms of “this edition delivers on these design goals,” not “this other edition is trash because it doesn’t do all the things I want.” There's no "best" version of D&D. Just the one that's best for you.

That is all. Soapbox dismounted.

Some people like to beep um gripe. Some people like to start fights. Some people are not clicking the link. How about posting the screen shot here.

The best edition is the one that you and your players enjoy. I mean, if you like anything other than my favorite edition you're wrong, but I can't stop you. :p

I think arguing is a lot of what these forums are about but we could be more civil about it. I mean if all debate disappeared from these forums then they'd be shutting down enworld pretty quick. A good debate brings people back. But the occasional reminder that it's about having fun and that is subjective is in order.
