That probably would've burned me out too. I know running a game up to 20th did that for me in PF1.I probably wouldn't have burned out on 4th if I had just stopped playing after we hit 10th level. There were still things I didn't like but I could have lived with it. Silly me, had to play and run a campaign to 30th because we could.
It's difficult to say "I didn't like X" without some people getting their feathers ruffled.Aren't Edition Wars a useful tool to help people discuss what they want out of RPGs? Or to expose people to new ways of playing?
Yup, it's about the friendship and good times for me.I loved 1E, but going through the rule books I realized the nostalgia for the game was the times with friends, not the rules.
Mod Note:Well that's mighty dickish of you.
I am a complete mercenary in the Edition Wars. I go wherever the players are. I guess that makes me more of a non-combatant than a mercenary. Some of my favorite player moments are from 3E, but I have a visceral negative reaction to thoughts about DMing in 3E/PF1. I loved 1E, but going through the rule books I realized the nostalgia for the game was the times with friends, not the rules. Same with 2E and 4E. All have warts and beautiful parts, but all can be made better. And all have been heavily house ruled in every game I have played even/especially RPGA games.
Ultimately, edition wars are pointless. Unless you are trying to persuade someone to join your table, why do we care what they like?
Yes. A built-in class benefit is specialization with rolled-up newspapers as clubbing weapons. Is Edition Warrior a new Fighter Subclass?
