D&D General Things That Bug You

Making it worse, the Zhentarim have blocked any and all attempts at rational magic weapon legislation. Any schmuck with 500gp can just stroll into any magic shoppe and buy a +1 longsword without anyone checking to make sure that he isn't just some murderhobo.
Curiously I'm very anti-purchasing of magic items, except when it comes to potions. I make them readily available, if expensive.

Oh yeah, the 6 stats are a mess! My wisdom increases my eyesight?

oh and: give me subclasses with passive features (champion, thief etc). Sometime I dont want 15 different buttons to press 2/per rest :p

With my table entirely composed of persons afflicted with ADHD, an active feature is a forgotten feature :p
8 stats would probably fix most of the balance issues: Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence, Willpower, Perception, Charisma.

Mostly 5e annoyances:
  • I don't like how there is functionally almost no difference between the different weapons of a given tier. Why even bother having battleaxes and longswords?
  • Odd skill scores should matter
  • DEX shouldn't be a god stat; I'd prefer for the best ranged weapons to use both STR and DEX.
It would make much more sense for bows to use Strength, considering how much they rely on muscle power.

We’ve been over this, I’ve made myself very clear.

The number one problem is that you won’t stop saying “module”, you old men. Nineteen ninety-nine! That’s when “modules” stopped being a thing!

And even in the distant decades ago when “modules” were published - way to find the most boring word possible to use instead of “adventure.”

In conclusion, God you’re old.

Alignment has always driven me to the edge starting with the original game. It really broke the logic circle with the Know Alignment spell and I have since recreated the whole kaboodle for my own World of Kalibruhn.

The above covers function; the other part of design is form. Call me old fashioned if I want clearly ordered and presented information that I can easily access during a game. Thus, even with DMG !E, 9 point font? Back then it was irritating, now it is unreadable. Eyes age, and constantly referencing 9 point font will age them quicker. Another point about form: There's too much noise on any given page what with side-bars, water-marked images and what not proliferating. I understand sprucing up a page, but when it starts defeating the purpose--accessing information quickly--it's a big put-off for me as it actually slows down the speed and efficiency of DMing and thus negatively impacts the play-end. The DCC Rule Book by GG is a prime example of this (as an aside).

Glad to see Alignment can even confound the oldest of oldskool.

What bugs me is the adventures don’t state the intended challenge of encounters in the published adventures. Was it supposed to easy, medium, hard or deadly? Most of the time it seems like they didn’t actually know, doubling the annoyance.

I agree with pretty much all of this. I would be fine with having Longbows and Shortbows have required Strength Scores to use them, as it takes quite a lot of muscle to get an arrow fly from a bow, especially if they're big. However, I wouldn't give Crossbows this requirement. I think it would help balance them out a bit more. Longbows/Shortbows have a longer range and are more quickly loaded than crossbows (unless you have Crossbow Expert or the Repeating Shot infusion), but they require more muscles and deal less damage.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Actually, I only use the term module for old modules, never for newer adventures.
