Frank Mentzer reveals more details on Worlds of Empyrea

Frank Mentzer, in a video interview about his years in game design and upcoming Kickstarter, notes that Worlds of Empyrea will not just include multi-system support, but that each game system will have an Empyrea boxed set tailor made to fit the play style for that particular game system, which he hopes to release for Gen Con 2018 following the upcoming Kickstarter next month.

Additionally, over on Facebook, he revealed a new (final) logo for the setting.

The different boxed sets means that the DCC version of the box set might differ in tone and content, than the D&D 5E version or the Castles & Crusades version. It also means that gamers will not need to sift through mechanics that are intended for other game systems (such as monster stat blocks, etc). The box set will include only the content relevant to the game system of choice. Amongst the systems mentioned were RuneQuest, Savage Worlds, D&D 5e, AD&D, BECMI, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Pathfinder, and Swords & Wizardry.

The interview also touches upon several other aspects of the Kickstarter as well as Frank's history during and after his TSR tenure.

Add-on the extra System Books only (very affordable) for the other Crunch you want.
That's built into the Kickstarter ordering setup.

This is cool - I know I will be looking at the ADnD, Basic and Pathfinder versions. What a great idea to part me from my money.

Well I know this box set didn't happen but I'm still curious if those 9 planets in the logo are the only ones you can see in the night sky whilst standing on the continent of Aquaria and if so what their given and indigenous names were, back in the day.

No judgment, no accusations, and no links; I genuinely don't believe that such things belong in this thread. I really, really, do not want to threadcrap; I would like this thread to remain for those who are excited about this product.

That said, I would feel remiss if I did not point out that it is usually a good idea to check in on what Crowdfunding creators have been up to in, for example, the past 4-5 years, before committing to give your money to them. There are many, many, examples of people getting burned before, and I just want to make the friendly suggestion that you good folks know who and what y'all are spending your money on.

I leave the rest of you to your well-justified excitement

You do realize this is from 4 years ago?

I believe you'll find that time frame was already in my post. This is not about endlessly relitigating stuff from years ago. It's about whether it still matters to you(generic you) or not. If it doesn't, great! If it does, also great!

I've heard a lot of backer horror stories from folks who didn't know who they were signing up for over the years. Hell, the whole Perfect RPG debacle was, what, a month ago?

This is just a situation where I think people might want to do their research before making the decision to back or not. What I'm trying, carefully (if maybe not fully successfully) to do, is to not advocate one position or the other. That way lies madness and acrimony and ultimately a closed thread. I just wanted to give a heads up for folks who I know might care but have forgotten what happened.

Oh ok. I was just a little confused by the post not trying to give you a hard time.

I recall looking at the project when it launched. Allegations aside, it looked like a joke. Unrealistic funding goal and too broad a project were just a few of the tell tale signs that this project was poorly conceived from the start. Even nostalgia could not save it.

Oh crap, I didn't realize that this thread was from 4 years ago. That makes total sense. ><

Thought it was weird that he was back in the Kickstarter wagon again
