Dragonlance Elmore's 'The Four Women of Dragonlance' Painting Is Finished

Back in February I mentioned that iconic D&D artist Larry Elmore was working on a new 'Women of Dragonlance' painting. Well, it's now finished! And you can buy a print of it!

Legend
From left to right, they are:

  • Goldmoon, one of the Heroes of the Lance, she brought knowledge of the gods of goodness back to Krynn after becoming a disciple of Mishakal, the goddess of healing.
  • Tika, who joined the Heroes of the Lance late in their quest to stop Takhisis (the goddess of evil) from conquering the world.
  • Kitiara, Highlord of the Blue Dragonarmy, one of the five main military forces that tried to conquer the world for Takhisis.
  • Laurana, princess of the elven nation of Qualinost and one of the Heroes of the Lance.
Also, the dragon in the background is Skie, Kitiara's dragon partner during the War of the Lance who later become one of the Dragon Overlords during the Age of Mortals.
I have little knowledge of Dragonlance. Never played in the setting or read any of the novels. This painting seems odd if Im interpreting things right from your description; if the other 3 are good and Kitiara and Skie are evil, why are they all just hanging out together? What was the original picture?

I really like the Elmore art back in the 80ies, 90ies, but this whole picture looks seriously dated. Like it was painted 30-40 years ago... I know that it's been recently painted. But somehow it doesn't live up to today's art standards. Nice retro piece though. Though Laurana doesn't even look like Laurana. And I am really missing Chrysania here.
Dated is the word I was looking for.

I love Elmore - some of his works are what brought D&D to life for me - but this one is a bit lackluster to me.

The painting does not represent a scene from the novels, or adventure modules. It's a portrait-style, just showcasing important female characters from the stories.

They did all interact . . . Kitiara was evil, but was a part of the friend-group of adventurers before the main story began.

Makes sense, thanks.
