WotC New D&D survey from WotC

I expressed zero interest in MtG as I honestly have none outside of the two D&D products. Even then thats even more curiosity than an actual desire for those books. It basically went straight to 2 or 3 pages of D&D questions, then at 39 percent. asked my age and then gender and was done. Survey kind of left me with the feeling were in for more D&D/MtG crossovers.

Well, yeah, the two D&D products in Magic Settings were big successes, and the new Forgotten Realms Magic Set is about to print money for WotC. More crossovers definitely incoming.

The fact that my entire Magic collection consists of 2 guild starter decks from 2012, 3 planeswalker decks from 2019 and 2020, and the arena starter kit seems like it would have been information that might have been useful to give my answers some context.

Choosing only 3 favourites for races and classes was pretty tough.
I didn't even get up to three classes. Fighter yes, Wizard yes, and after that any class I'd be keen on e.g. Ranger or Rogue or Cleric would be the 1e version not the 5e version, and I didn't want to look like I was supporting the 5e version. So, only voted for two.

As for races: ye gods but there's about 45 too many on that list! When did all these monsters become playable as PCs, and why? Human, Dwarf, Elf, a fourth vote would go to Halfling if I had one; and after Half-Elf, Half-Orc and - I suppose - Gnome, the rest of the list is unnecessary.

Some of the races I could do without, like Vedalken, Grung, Yuan-Ti, and Locathah, but I like most of the other races and think that they have a place in 5e, especially since a lot of them are variants and/or setting specific (Dragonmarked Races, Simic Hybrids, etc).

Agreed. I had to narrow it down to Warforged, Gnomes (yes, I said gnomes. don't judge), and Changelings for the races, and Artificers, Paladins, and Warlocks for the classes. I wanted to have more on both lists, but had to make do with their restriction.

I‘m currently playing 4 different characters so I tended to just use what I was currently playing.

Genasi meant I technically got 4 picks for the price of one, so that at least was an easy one.

I don't get to play as a PC much, but the one character I am playing right now is a Changeling Hexblade Warlock (which is why I chose Warlock and Changeling in the survey). Genasi are cool, their somewhat lacking mechanics just turns me off from playing one (whenever I get the chance to play, that is). But that's a discussion for another thread.
