Yet would it be as gross if some other species - say, Elves - got a +2 bonus to its intelligence?
I think the point is that of all the playable races, exactly two kobolds and orcs receive a penalty to stats. So the more “monstrous” races are dunked on, and, orcs especially, really don’t get anything to compensate.

Meanwhile, Elves get +1 skill, resistance to charm, +2 to Dex, immunity to magical sleep, Elven Weapon training, and can choose a subrace with a +1 to a different stat and a subrace benefit. Maybe they should have gotten the -2 to a stat?

Why wouldn't a race that scavenges off of other races like humans, dwarves and elves have morning stars?
How are they getting enough for it to be the signature weapon of their species? Why do they pick over all the swords and daggers and clubs to pick the spikey balls?
Which means you'll end up having to stat out each individual; fine for thems as wants to do it but not so fine if you've got other things to do and-or are just looking for a generic baseline representation of the species (which 98% of the time is all I want and-or need).
IT's not each individual, it's each role. You get stats for the rank and file footsoldier, the scouts, the leaders and a few outliers to 1) make the species more viable as a full encounter and 2) better represent what that species is fielding.

YES! TEN BILLION PERCENT, YES!

Racial stats, especially mental stats, are awful.

The MM is just an example, not some sort of "Almost everyone of this race uses these weapons." You can use it or change it up. When I have time, I mix up the weapons of all the races, unless it's like a city guard or other unit that would be armed and armored similarly. When I don't have time, using the sample is useful.

That is... really not cool to say dude. Especially for something as unimportant as calling goblin weapon assignment 'weird'. And against people who are ON YOUR SIDE in the argument.

Like, seriously dude.
Er, that comment had nothing to do with you or any "weird" comment. You told me to tell the people who call it default and I was referring to them, not you.

They pick out the spiky balls for aesthetic reasons? Those are the types of questions Mystery Science Theater 3000 advises us against.

If you're wondering how he eats and breaths/
and other science facts (la la la)/
Then repeat to yourself "it's just a show
I should really just relax!"
