D&D 5E Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

Amazon has revealed the next two D&D hardcovers! The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a feywild adventure due in September, and Curriculum of Chaos is a Magic: the Gathering setting of Strixhaven, which looks like a Harry Potter-esque mage school, set for November.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is D&D's next big adventure storyline that brings the wicked whimsy of the Feywild to fifth edition for the first time.

The recent Unearthed Arcana, Folk of the Feywild, contained the fairy, hobgoblin of the Feywild, owlfolk, and rabbitfolk. UA is usually a good preview of what's in upcoming D&D books.

Curriculum of Chaos is an upcoming D&D release set in the Magic: The Gathering world of Strixhaven -- a brand new MtG set only just launched.

Strixhaven is a school of mages on the plane of Arcavios, an elite university with five rival colleges founded by dragons: Silverquill (eloquence), Prismari (elemental arts), Witherbloom (life and death), Lorehold (archaeomancy), and Quandrix (numeromancy). You can read more about the M:tG set here.

You will be able to tune into WotC's streamed event D&D Live on July 16 and 17 for details on both, including new character options, monsters, mechanics, story hooks, and more!

"the timing of the announcement coincides with an upcoming Unearthed Arcana playtest titled "Mages of Strixhaven," which likely would have spoiled D&D's plans. That Unearthed Arcana will be released at some point tomorrow, June 8th."

I was right about Strixhaven getting it's own UA! I'm very excited for it!
So, some light speculation for the UA:

There are five Colleges in Strixhaven, each of whom has two associated Mage Classes:

- Lorehold, dedicated to the study of history, sociology and archeology: Clerics and Shamans

- Whitherbloom, dedicated to the study of biology: Druids and Warlocks

- Quandrix, dedicated to the study if math and physics: Wizards and Druids

- Prismari, dedicated to music and art: Wizards and Shamans

- Silverquill, dedicated to rhetoric and law: Clerics and Warlocks

Now, I am not sure what to male.of the Shamans for D&D terms (Sorcerers, maybe?), so I'll leave them out as a Wildcard. The Lorehold Cleric could be Grave or Forge, so I don't see anything new coming there. Whitherbloom is perfect for the Spore Druid, but I wonder if a new Warlock pact would be appropriate or if Fey would fit the bill. Quandrix is interesting, because a Mathemagician or Math Druid are wild and interesting ideas. Prismari, an art Wizard, maybe...? Silverquill, ai could see some sort of new Domain for Clerics or Warlocks. Excited for this.

Looks like official announcements are being made!

Well, my interest in this adventure just vanished. I’ve no doubt it will be a fantastic product (the idea of strapping butterfly wings to a displacer beast’s tentacles for a circus attraction is certainly interesting), but I really dislike the victorian-era look of the main cover art.

Alternate cover is FAR better, but ultimately neither is what I envision when I think of a fey-themed adventure.

And now strixhaven

Now this is more what I’m looking for! I’ve started work on a Mystara campaign set in Glantri and an expanded Broken Lands, and this art would fit in nicely with my interpretation of the Great School of Magic.

I’ve really come to appreciate the Ravnica book, as there was some pretty cool stuff from that product that I’ve been able to incorporate into Eberron. Hopefully Strixhaven will be good too!

It would only be bearfolk, there are already frogfolk and dhampyrs. And if the mechanics are fairly simple it wouldn't need to go in a UA.
We've got only very distinctive flavor of amphibian people for playable frog people: the grung. They're poisonous tree frogs, which are not at all suitable for general frog people.

A more standard frog people, that could be used for bullywug or frogloks or what have you, would have a niche.

When the bards sober up and find their pants, they're going to want to talk to you.
Bards fit in, certainly, but I was running down the Magic Classrs present in each College as represented the Cards. There is no Bard in MtG (though check back in a month fir the FR Set that might change).

I could see a Prismari "Shaman" (example below) as a Bard, but not sure if a new Subclass would make sense:

Probably have Bard refluffed as a Shaman.
