Dragonlance (+) What Would You Want From 5e Dragonlance?

The option of the parallel earths or ucronies, where the fandom could create their own alternet timelines, for example one where lord Soth is sent to the past and he kills king-priest, avoiding the cataclysm, or where the seekers discover the secrets of the psionic disciplines. Or Raitslin's daughter, a half-irda, warns heroes to stop an invasion by the Vodoni empire (Spelljammer)

I wish to know more about the third continent, Adtlatum.

The famous heroes of the lance become "demigods", bright lords in the delight domains (The Witchlight version of Sithicus).

A recton of the gullies. They are the mixture of dwarfs and gnomes, but they are their mixed blood helped them to survive an epidemic what forced the evacuation of the "pureblood" races, the low intelligence is a secondary effect by this epidemic.

Half-ogre as PC race. And also the ursines, and the taykin(tayling and tayland). Of course other players will want centaurs and minotaurs as PCs.

Akashic Realms, demiplanes created by the collective memories. Do you know the novel "Tanis: the shadow years"?

Draconians PCs are possible if we allow different subtypes, one woudl be the "runt" or nerfed version, and others the "elite" or upgraded, the "pureblood". And even within the own subraces allowing special blood-lines with exclusive mutations or traits.

The return of the spider-dragons, even with age categories like the rest of true dragons. They are perfect to cause lots of troubles in the Feywild and in the Shadowfell.

The Feywild could be the battlefield between the native dragons and intruders from the demiplane "Io's blood islands" (Councyl of Wyrms).

An "opened door" for the crusaders, the martial adept class from Tome of Battle: Book of the Nine Swords.

For them to finally realize that this is a setting for novels and not a setting for gaming. It's always been too railroady and too restrictive and modern gamers hate, hate, hate both of those.

But if they really have to do it, than they should use the Devotion rules from Theros to measure characters allegiances to various causes, gods, and ideals.
Plus thread. Please don’t argue with the premise.

I am actually considering running an almost West Marches style "war" game in Krynn - where from among 10 (maybe increase to 12) PCs they respond to different quests and war events of their own accord (in groups of 4 to 6) that broadly coincide with the original 12 modules, but with room for things to change based on in-game events.

This right here is exactly what I would LOVE to see in a 5e Dragonlance!

When I re-read the first two trilogies as an adult, Raistlin grates more and more for me. And Caramon, who was my favorite as a kid, became less so for putting up with Raistlin's abusive behavior.

No Raistlin.

Anyone, back to the positives!

As others have mentioned, subclasses for the wizardly orders, Solamnic knights. Great big battles for the PCs to engage in, with a supporting war system. Updated Kender, gully dwarves, and gnomes. Focus on the bonds between characters. But there's one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet:

Lord Loren SOTH!

If Dragonlance returns as an adventure, I don't know that I want another adventure that ends with showdown with Tia...khisis. Lord Soth seems like the perfect iconic to square off against.

I approve this notion of more Soth.

So! Those are some of my ideas! I've got vague feelings about giving more rules to how different kinds of settlements effect resting and gathering info and supplies, and the like, but they're super vague at this point. Still, DL is a world where spending the night in Solace is different from spending the night as guests in a Tower of High Wizardry, and you can absolutely make the difference interesting and fun.

What are your ideas?
I... honestly don’t know much about DL; probably the setting I know the least of. So I think what I want out of a DL book is... to be surprised.

I know most of the art of course, and from that it seems that lure of power/fall from grace is an important theme. Same with fellowship camaraderie. I’d like those to be mechanically represented.

And whereas settings like Eberron, Ravenloft (and Ravnica) seem to move “past” the low middle age era into something more modern, I’d like DL to remain more medieval, with narrow but deep magic (as opposed to the wide but shallow magic of Eberron).

...and lance-wielding dragon riders, naturally.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
This may be controversial... but I would like to see this book with the same art quality consistent with recent releases (Ravenloft, Eberron, etc). I know folks here probably want Elmore pieces, but I would prefer seeing different styles of art and recreations of old pieces with new takes.

I just feel like I don't need to see more of the same style again, it would be good to see more styles. I very much love how Eberron moved away from the 3E art style in 5E to integrate more artists.

Hell yeah. I think that what sets DL apart, and what a lot of people miss entirely, is that it is a setting of tragic heroism, redemption and falls from grace, and romantic ideals that would fit in an Arthurian tale. The bonds between characters is more important than the narrative itself.
And yeah, definitely more of a medieval world than FR or Eberron.
