Transformers Kingdom - What did you Think

@Janx - thank you. You hit it right on the button for what problem I was having with this. This was a HUGE fan service film that expected people to be far, far more Transformers fans that I am. Again, I think it's a problem with Netflix's really, REALLY short release schedule. If they had a few more episodes in each series to actually explain this stuff, I think I would have enjoyed the series a lot more.

As it was, I was really lost so many times. So much of it seemed just out of left field - Quintesson? Huh? WTF is a Quintesson? - So on and so forth.

Ok, disclaimer, I'm not a huge Transformers nerd. I watched the movies, I watched the old cartoons when I was a kid, I watched the hell out of the Beast Wars series when it was on and really loved that. So, when they came out with the new Transformers trilogy, I'm watching it as someone who has very little knowledge of the universe.
I only watched the original, caught some of Beast Wars and whatever the ~2000-2003 era shows were while being a proxy parent, and saw 1.5 of the live action movies. Then as an act of middle aged nostalgia, caught some of the Prime Wars trilogy, and now this. This is... a lot better than Prime Wars. I agree with those who say it is a logical mess and didn't show when it needed to show, and didn't explain when it needed to explain, but there were fun points and places.

In the third season -which I have actually watched- they mention the Quintessons were the creators/slavers of the Cybertronian race as we know it. They have the ability to create new transformers and even revive dead ones. (For example one Quintesson is the one who revived Optimus after he died in the Movie)

Oh I got the gist of what a quntesson is. But relying on my having watched a thirty year old movie to get this pretty large plot point was a bit much for me.

The point about it not showing when it should and not explain paining when it should is spot on IMO.

I liked the shows, I really did. I just found lots of it going whoosh over my head.

Watched it back to back with motu: revelations and honestly this one got me more.
Turning Starscream into Cassandra for Unicron was brilliant.
Black Arachnia: smartest lady in the army and the pointer out of dumbasses.
Dinobot "I got to the hall of fame 1 year before optimus frigging prime" did well enough. He has a particular plot that happens with him and he did it.

when did Elita 1 die?

This feels like the whole reason they did this series was to slap around their transformers' toys, including that one weirdo that painted his Optimus Prime black.

I did get a kick out of the arc finally transforming.

The updated beast war animation was better than the original, but that might be damning with faint praise.

I'm calling this series the last temptation of Megatron for obvious reason. :D

Well, I would hope that the animation would be better. Good grief, Beast Wars came out in the 90's. At the time, it was pretty cutting edge. Then again, I was a giant Reboot fan, so, the art was pretty close for both. Like I said, it was great for the time.

I have to admit, we never got Transformers on Saturday mornings where I lived. This was back before everyone had cable, so, I never actually saw the Transformers cartoons particularly. I saw a few of them, but, not enough to ever really get into it. It was Beast Wars that drew me in.

In the Beast Wars series, didn't they find the Autobots at one point? That's how they got back to Cybertron AIR. It's been a really long time thoguh.

They did.

Here in my country I'm sure they broadcasted G1 at some point, but that was before my time. Growing up, I got to watch the Masters trilogy, which was on a loop for a few years. After that, they attempted to show G2, but it felt flat. After watching the elaborate transformations and cool gimmicks of the Japanese series, watching the original transformations wasn't anything out of the ordinary. (I also blame the poor selection of episodes they did for G2)

But Beast Wars, it was actually nice. It was so cool and new. (And they having female transformer toys didn't hurt at all) It wasn't just episodic, it built a story. It didn't have flat characters, they grew and learned. (And I was sure Dinobot and Ratrap were this close to rage kiss at any time... n_n)
