D&D 5E Strixhaven Twitter Previews

the why goes into personal stuff and how I have managed to cook my head, but boils down to me finding all that utterly unrelatable and clearly things are moving in a direction I might not be able to deal with.
I think I can understand why. Looking at these previews, the concept seems so far removed from the usual D&D fare that I'm left wondering if maybe it would be better off using a different game system. That said, I am somewhat excited about the prospect of playing a Harry Potter style D&D game. I'll reserve judgment until I've read the book.

I've already preordered this and the dragon book on DnDbeyond. Keen to get into both when they are finally released. A magical academy is a cool setting that I've never managed to get around to running (like so many other campaigns), maybe this will tip me over the edge and I can run a mini campaign for my friends.

Often people in general, and fans very specifically, fall into all or nothing thinking traps. I am seeing that a lot with Strixhaven and Witchlight. I have seen multiple people here and on other sites talking about the ‘direction’ of D&D. Maybe this is just the season where WoTC tries out some new things and then tackles some more tried and true grognard things next year like Dark Sun. I find each year I like some of what they put out, and not other things, but I like that they try new things from time to time.

I really appreciate your wait and see approach though. I will also reserve judgement until I have a chance to flip through it at the local hobby shop.

Yeah, that's fair. I am already considering running the Strixhaven adventure for one of my groups, so I am somewhat excited about it. None of the social media previews posted above have lessened my interest. I can, however, understand how some people might feel like they're being left behind as D&D moves on without them. I resigned myself to no longer being in WotC's target market for D&D some time ago, but that hasn't stopped me from purchasing every 5e book they've published so far.

Yeah, I'll never understand it when people point to Strixhaven and The Wild Beyond the Witchlight and complain about "the direction of D&D" and "desanitizing the game!"

I mean, they literally just published a Ravenloft book. Before that they did a horror adventure in the arctic and before that they did an adventure in the Nine Hells. The people complaining about the direction of D&D are very obviously cherry-picking.

see them try new things is interesting to me at least.
Romance in an RPG bothers you? I never used it myself, but it doesn't bother me that others do.
the first word that bothers me yes, brings pain to me plus is utterly unrollplayable.
