In Campaign 1 the characters briefly went to Marquet. Sam's character heard of a drug colloquially named "Spice", decided he wanted some and went around whispering to shady looking NPCs "Do you Spice?" - IE, are you selling drugs?

Technically it wasn't actually drugs, he just thought it was and ended up paying a fortune for a tasty spice for cooking

On the down side he got burned, on the bright side the employee he had agreed to buy it for turned out to not have a drug problem.

I mean I would say there's just as much reason to think any of those things were likely to happen as there was a few months ago, which is to say no reason whatsoever.

At best I can see them exploring different systems in one shots as they have done before.

But them leaving 5e went out the window when the Wildemount book got published by WoTC and Pathfinder 2e didn't arrive at a good time for them to make a shift (I seriously think if history was different and 2e was ready around the time Campaign 1 ended for Critical Role, Paizo could have swooped in and supported Critical Role in exchange for them using 2e).

Oh yeah, there were folks who genuinely thought Ashley couldn't handle 5E and therefore they were going to switch to like Pathfinder 2E or a much more simpler system. All completely nonsense IMO.
