I hear you, and agree that FR isn't a lock. I'd say it is about 70% likely, with Greyhawk being 25%, and other being 5% (e.g. Exandria, Ravenloft, etc).

I was talking about a 50th anniversary Greyhawk product a few years ago, when the top of the 50th first started coming up. I would go big, like so:

Greyhawk 50th Anniversary Box
  • 128-page world gazetteer
  • 128-page ruins of Castle Greyhawk campaign
  • 96-page city gazetteer
  • 36-page historical booklet describing the original Greyhawk campaign
  • Cloth Darlene retro map
  • Cloth World map by Anne Meyer
  • Cloth City of Greyhawk map
  • Ruins of Castle Greyhawk cardboard cheatsheets
  • Photo of Gary Gygax (just kidding)

Everything would be of high quality - all the maps cloth, sturdy faux leather covers for the booklets, etc. $99.95 price tag.
I feel the anniversary should celebrate both Arneson and Gygax.

I would like plug-and-play regional settings.

One for the City of Greyhawk to celebrate Gygax, and one for Blackmoor to celebrate Arneson.

Make them easy to incorporate into any setting, whether Dark Sun or Ravnica.

Yeah, it is novel canon, even if not FR setting guide canon.

I think of each novel series, film, video game, and so on, as the authorships own D&D campaign.

If I like it, I make it canon for my campaign too.

But the rules I read are more agnostic and wont assume it.

Honestly for now I just ignore Chris Perkins post as nonsensical and I encourage others to do the same until what they are up to becomes clear or they change their minds again.

I feel it should celebrate Ed Greenwood and Jeff Grubbs, because without the Forgotten Realms being a money maker through good times and hard, there would be no D&D by now. Gygax and Arnseson may have made D&D, but Ed Greenwood and Jeff Grubbs made D&D GREAT.
Many have contributed - but "50" goes back to the very origins of D&D with its invention as a concept.

A 50th anniversary is about its inventors, Arneson and Gygax.

BTW I'll point out the Greyhawk isn't a revised setting so the Anniversary is moot for the question of will it be the revisited setting as it never got a none adventure visit (and as we know, Adventures don't count, they don't view them as setting books, hence why VRGtR was called a classic setting, not a revisit setting even with Curse of Strahd adventure being released long before it). Could it also come in 2024? yes but what meaty mechanics would go into it, beyond a vague sense of "grittiness"? How would you meaningfully set it apart?

It occurs to me one way of doing the Nostalgia thing for Greyhawk without having to worry about setting it apart as a Setting, is to place the Summer Adventure and adventure anthology there instead of FR, so FR gets a 3.0e style setting book or better, and Greyhawk gets a major adventure and adventure anthology which honestly would be of more use then a setting book to Greyhawk fans.

Not Greyhawk world which is a 2e and 3e thing, but the City of Greyhawk (which is an adventure) which is a Gygax thing during 1e.

Maybe a plug-and-play regional setting from each edition?

1e. Blackmoor and City of Greyhawk
2e. A city from Forgotten Realms or Planescape?
3e. A city from Eberron?
4e. A city from Nerath?
5e. A city from Magic The Gathering?

Make it each one authentic to its original authorship, and also easy to plug all of them into the same world setting.
