That how I read it to. It’s an interesting gamble, throw down a 9th level fireball with a DC 19 check,

if we assume 20 int and advantage on the check, that’s 51% check. I’d say that’s a generally a gamble not worth taking, but I could see an adventurous party giving it a shot.

All in all not OP to me, seems a high gamble to get such a benefit
Or an upcasted scry stoneskin telport etc using their stronghold :D

Hopefully there are plenty of spells that are worth upcasting for twelve hours back home.

I'm generally not too fond of specialist wizards, but this stuff seems really good!
All the Esoteric talents are very interesting and can make very different builds!

The only feature that seems a bit underwhelming is War magic: +3 to +5 to damage per spell seems way less powerful and useful than Energy retention (lots of spell slots!) or Arcane Armor (temporary hp with each spell cast!)

Perfect control is awesome!

You bring up a good point. But when I re-read it, I noticed that it isn‘t limited to a single target, and I think that’s where most of its oomph is coming from (although it’s obviously also the way to get boosted cantrip damage).

It‘s looking pretty cool.

I’m hoping the Mage will be a “generalist”, since I’ve missed having one of those but not really wanted to make my own.
