There was a recent thread about salaries in RPG creative positions, kicked off by none less than Sean K. Reynolds sharing salary information. No, there isn't really better pay out there in the field, and at least WotC has benefits as well.
Not in RPGs necessarily, but plenty of people have moved over to video games and I imagine those salaries are potentially higher than what most folks in the D&D department at WotC get.

(@Campbell beat me to it.)

Guys, Adam Lee hasn't been on the RPG team for a long while now, he was in charge of coordinating story stuff with Netflix, Paramount, etc. for D&D and Magic tie-ins. He probably got a Hollywood or video game gig elsewhere.

He's been involved in some of the fairly recent stuff, though not as a lead. He wrote an adventure for Candlekeep Mysteries. He wrote Domains of Delight for ExtraLife. He was one of the designers for Tasha's.

He was the lead writer for Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, which was his peak involvement on the D&D side as far as his creative work.

It's obviously a code:

11 years ago I arrived at Wizards and couldn’t believe it. Now I am leaving on a new adventure and can’t believe it.
I’ve made lifelong friends and I’m humbled by the whole experience.
Thanks, Wizards, and everyone who likes our games.

Rearrange the letters and it's planescae!

And obviously he just forgot to put in another word with the letter p because he meant to make Planescape!

Baldur's Gate came out years ago, and his portions of Candlekeep and Tasha's are also probably pretty old: he went over to the Franchise team a while ago.

He was on the WotC TTRP team until April 2021, when he moved into the position you're talking about (where he lasted 8 months).

April 2021 is pretty recent.
