Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

I’m going to stick with phylactery no matter what Paizo chooses. Personally, the more changes I see occurring like this, the more I begin to question the unhealthy level of empathy being displayed. But that’s me and by no means indicative of anyone else, so feel free to disagree, I won’t mind.

Out of curiosity, where's the line between an "unhealthy level of empathy" and an unhealthy level of lack of empathy?

My guess would be somewhere between apathy and emotional neurosis.

In my experience, most of the world's problems are created by an extremely unhealthy lack of empathy.

Empathy, by and large, is a good thing. We evolved it for a reason. It's almost always a good thing to use it.

Golden Mean Fallacy. If one of the "extremes" is having enough empathy to see how the appropriation of the word "phylactery" could be harmful, I fail to see how that's an "overabundance of empathy" or how empathy could be harmful in almost any situation.

As an example, I think too much empathy is behind a lot of enabling, which can be destructive to those enabled.

To be fair, that example only works if empathy is actually the cause of "enabling." I don't think that's anything more than a guess on your part, though. I also suspect-- though I'm not certain-- that there would be disagreement with that assertion from some mental health professionals.
