When snarf stares for too long in to a mirror, a bard stares back

Conan understood the power of bards:

"A great poet is greater than any king. His songs are mightier than my scepter; for he has near ripped the heart from my breast when he chose to sing for me. I shall die and be forgotten, but Rinaldo's songs will live for ever."

Fafhrd himself was also a skald, amongst many other things, in Leiber's tales. And Tolkien, of course, filled his books with song.

And of course...

You say
The price of Snarf's love's not a price that you're willing to pay
You cry
At your dice which you hurl at the table when you see me go by
Why so sad?
Remember we made an arrangement when I went away
Now you're making me mad
Remember, despite our estrangement, I'm your man

You'll be back, soon you'll see
You'll remember all ur Bards belong to me
You'll be back, time will tell
You'll remember those Bards are ne'er-do-wells
Warlocks rise, illusionists fall
But those atrocious Bards have survived through it all
And when push comes to shove
I will send a fully armed battalion to remind the Bards of my love!

Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat dat da ya da!
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat dat da

How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a
fighting-man, dropped in the middle of a forgotten
spot in the Sea of Swords by deities, impoverished, in squalor
Grow up to be a hero and a bard?

Mannahnin

Scion of Murgen (He/Him)
True story. The origin of the word Bard can be traced back to the middle ages when people would go to the local bar, get skunk drunk, start singing loudly and then pass out. Others would come in and look at the poor fellows and say, "That guy's Bar'd." Over time it got shortened to Bard and here we are.
The only reason this is all written in past tense is that you haven't gone drinking with me yet.
