The technology does not exist to do real time animation of avatars to match what the players are saying (and in some cases doing - gestures matter too). Staring at static avatars while unseen people talk does not sound like a good show.

Imititating all the gestures in real time aren't necessary, but I imagine a menu of actions like in the Sims (Medieval).

I think it is, to make a TTRPG live real-play work. Most of the time is sitting around talking. A canned menu of actions isn't going to cut it to make that interesting to watch for several hours.

…more actors pretending to play D&D…cool 😎👍

I’d watch if that Norm guy was part of the partay 🥳

I think actors who never played dnd before find playing dnd like an improv class to improve their ability to get into and create a character…if they find out they actually enjoy the game, all the better!
These aren't actors. Like none of them fit the the traditional definition.

There's a video game streamer, a studio host, and a couple professional roleplayers (including the DM).

The gatekeeping here is based on being too lazy to look into who the people are, not in reality.

My biggest issue with actual plays is how someone will always resort to Generic Eastern European Accent. Just clicking on that CoC classic link someone posted with Walters, I jumped to a random point and the lady was talking and gesturing wildly while speaking in Generic Eastern European Accent.
It's just a huge pet peeve of mine.
I guarantee, at some point in this show. someone will do it.
It's a cousin of the "Dwarves are Scottish" thing.

Plenty of acting experience from all but one of these people and the other has tv and media experience…

If you enjoy this type of thing then great but I think these shows are just that…shows. Scripted and rehearsed, starring actors playing the parts of gamers.

Anyway, I might be wrong…but I still find these types of things pretty dull. No worries..enjoy 👍

Wow, threw gatekeeping at me, thanks. Regardless, they are actors, even in a loose term I’d imagine they did high school, college, and other type of gigs that wouldn’t even be covered on IMDB but acting none the less. Social media blurs the line of what some consider actors (Tom cruise or broadway actors, or online presences like so many people nowadays who might act on their streams) and again if they think of dnd as method acting, great, have fun enjoy the show. I’ll check it out and see how it goes.

Fun fact: Actual Play shows are recorded as "TV Series" under IMDb as are studio hosting jobs. The vast majority of BDave's and a sizeable percentage of Ify and Fiona's actor credits there fit under those (and probably a fair amount of Kassem's but I'm not super familiar with him)

I think it is just the idea of voicing the "other" in a fantasy space. Are you Eastern European? I'm Anglo-American, and the number of times people put on an English accent (ANY of them) in fantasy RPGs would put the numbers for Eastern European/Scottish accents to shame. I don't let it bother me though, because I understand that they are commonly heard/understood accents that easily create a fantasy atmosphere.
