I wonder if the same people fighting for CR's right to use colonialism imagery are the same people who have an issue with Orcs, Drow, Gnolls, Demons, and other not real fantasy beings representing real world minorities.

Mod Note:

And I wonder if folks looking to start a fight don't bother to look if a moderator recently posted in the thread. Because, really, this is an extraordinary tactical flub.

While some criticism of that opening sequence is fair, folks are hereby warned that derailing the entire thread over it will not turn out well for you. Please don't go there. Thanks.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
Ish. Some fandoms are simply toxic. And all fandoms have toxic elements. What I’m talking about is “toxic positivity”. The weird idea that anything even slightly less than fawning adoration is an utter betrayal. I’m part of quite a few fandoms, and most don’t seem to have that same “toxic positivity” and when they do, it’s nowhere near the degree it is present in the CR fandom.

That’s not how CR formed. The guests certainly are picked from amongst the cast’s friends who’re generally positive people. But the original cast were just friends who got together to play a game as a birthday present to one of them. And now here we are.

Interestingly enough, Orion Acaba was originally a member of the group and was quickly shuffled off as the stream started. And he is easily the most controversial of that group, if you research him (plus the accusation of fudged dice rolls, which is hilarious).

Forgetting all the other drama (backstage and otherwise), IMO he just wasn't a good fit for the group.

The other members are/were great about sharing spotlight time and playing off of each other - essential in such a large group, especially when streaming. He, well, wasn't - it just was not a great fit.

I just know that I’m very excited to see how Travis’s new character plays off the group tonight. He seemed to have fun with the character in the Christmas one-shot, so it will be interesting to see this character develop through an entire campaign (die gods willing he survives to the end of course).

He did update his twitter to indicate he’s a troll...so no idea if Chetney is meant as a long-term character or another placeholder/ringer until later.

You're assuming that's where he's going with it!

I'm not convinced he's not bringing back old characters just to have them killed off!

The Kenny of Critical Role (but with different characters).

That is a possibility that Chetney is also a temp character. However, Matt mentioned in a twitter post that Travis did enjoy playing Chutney in the one-shot and had considered playing him in a proper campaign.

Regardless of which is the case, I’m still excited.

Basically, playing a series of characters that introduce plot?

"Wait, wait! Don't kill the messenger! The GM will do it in a few sessions anyway!"
That's what the last one was.

And the new one was introduced in a similar way (hey, I have something for you guys to help me with!), with a similar "temporary" feel.

It would certainly be an interesting take!
