D&D 5E Point buy vs roll

Which method fo you use for generating ability scores?

  • Point buy

  • Roll

  • Both

  • Other (please explain)

Results are only viewable after voting.
You forgot the 3rd method: fixed array. Which is even more standard than point-buy which is presented as an optional variant in the PHB.

Good thing it was forgotten, as it's even more boring than point-buy. :)

  • it's the fastest
  • it is the most difficult to cheat
  • it is the most equal to all PCs

And the most boring. :)

Just joking here, it's obviously a matter of taste and I understand your points.

But it's still boring. :p

We have a long list of arrays players choose from. It's balanced while adding a lot of variety. We actually have two lists, one for standard play and one with higher numbers for more epic play.

It's weird to have a 5e poll and not have Standard Array in one of the options. I voted other which I shouldn't have needed to as the 2 default stat generation methods are Standard Array and rolling.

As far as the topic I just don't think rolling works well, esp. if using feats. There is just nowhere to go if starting with high stats. Having a max of 16 to start with means there is a tradeoff when taking feats and also means that the character becomes stronger as they level.

Rolling all the way. The way I see it, a big part of the game (most types of games really) is playing the hand you're dealt, and that occasionally means low to average scores.
How long do you play that PC? Because for me it could be years. I don't want to play this guy for years.
