You're correct that human beings are psychologically irrational about many things that fly in the face of reasonable metrics. Not the way human beings work. Try saying that to any Olympian who didn't medal.

I will do you one better. When my straight A nephew brought home a B- and was super bumbed I told him that 1) it was still good, 2) how averages work and that he is still doing awesome and 3) if his father came home with a B- on a test his father (nephews grandfather) would have beat him with in an inch of his life... becuse there was no way that a D student got a B- without lieing or cheat...I would give them more credit than that. I am certain they deal with disappointment, but even making it to that level is a dream achieved for most of them IMO from the interviews, etc. I've seen. Getting a medal is just the icing on the cake, but the cake still tastes pretty good without it.![]()
no I reject this entire concept... you are nothing but a success and this ricky bobby "if your not first your last" is such an alien thought process... again every edition (up till now but I bet come 2024 with anniversary that will change) not 5e has failedNot as an Olympian. That's a fact as you cannot be super successful as an Olympian without winning medals. It's only super successful as an athlete in general.
You are as an Olympian if you don't get a medal.
He got the medal. A=gold, B=silver, C=bronze. D and F are failures. A lot of Olympians are bummed to get the silver. Everyone wants gold. They still don't fail unless they fail to get a medal.I will do you one better. yes by all standards the last place, the bronz metal, and the gold metal are all within inches of each other. they are all the top 1% in there field and have reached a level of success that no one on these boards has ever reached...You're correct that human beings are psychologically irrational about many things that fly in the face of reasonable metrics.
Well, I would argue against that. I understand your point, in general, but I myself went from failing Spanish in middle school to a B in one test by studying hard and working my butt of for it.becuse there was no way that a D student got a B- without lieing or cheat...
I've never said or implied that you have to be first or you're last. Now you're inventing fiction and trying to attribute it to me. Stop that.no I reject this entire concept... you are nothing but a success and this ricky bobby "if your not first your last" is such an alien thought process...
Each edition stands alone and is measured by different criteria. This is another bastardization of my position.again every edition (up till now but I bet come 2024 with anniversary that will change) not 5e has failed
being bummed is one thing... kicking yourself cause .0003 seconds faster would make you gold in stead of silver is normal, wanting to get .0004 seconds faster is great... still not a failure. even if you are 1 second slower and in last place, it's good to say you want to be 1 second faster, but again being last in the olympics is STILL A MASSIVE SUCCESSS..He got the medal. A=gold, B=silver, C=bronze. D and F are failures. A lot of Olympians are bummed to get the silver. Everyone wants gold. They still don't fail unless they fail to get a medal.
I was mostly being funny with him to show how much smarter and better at school he is then his dad... me and his mom did good in school but no where near as good as he does.Well, I would argue against that. I understand your point, in general, but I myself went from failing Spanish in middle school to a B in one test by studying hard and working my butt of for it.
So, while I might generally question it, it is very possible for people to earn it, too.
