D&D 5E [Kobold Press] Tome of Beasts 3 is live on Kickstarter!

As someone who has all three Kobold monster books currently, in pdf and on Roll20, I can say I like them better than the core Monster Manuals. The art is top notch, there is a lot of variety in the monster design, and some of them are just plain MEAN. I would say on average the critters are more dangerous than core monsters of the same CR. My guys were fighting some umbral vampires last night that did 4d6 cold damage with a touch and drained 1d6 points of Strength automatically. If I had rolled a critical hit someone would have died, as I'm pretty sure that Strength drain would double to 2d6, and the people getting touched were weak spellcasters. And, unrelated, it makes me miss the days of actual Touch attacks where your armor and shield doesn't matter.
Our table uses touch attack AC for incorporeal-styled creatures (wraiths, spectres, shadows...etc)
We ignore natural armour and shields. If an item has +x AC, then we use the +x.

Lifelong gamers and miniatures fans, John Popson and Ed Cortez started making miniatures around 8 years ago with a bunch of homemade casting equipment. Over the course of 9 successful Kickstarter campaigns, they upgraded their facilities to include state of the art 3D printers as well as full metal and resin casting capabilities. Their most recent addition was a plastic injection setup—which will be put to great use creating the miniatures that are part of the Tome of Beasts 3 Kickstarter!

The Effincool Miniatures team is currently running their own Kickstarter campaign to create even more miniatures for their Kobold Press Bestiary line of miniatures. Their main objective is to fund the creation of 8 new catfolk miniatures as part of their Iconic Races line, which currently includes 4 bearfolk and 4 ravenfolk. Like the bearfolk and ravenfolk miniatures, each catfolk miniature will represent a core character role: healer, spellcaster, warrior, rogue.

In addition to the catfolk miniatures, Effincool is re-tooling their previously released Kobold Press Bestiary miniatures to plastic, many of which are available as add-ons in the Kickstarter. If you love miniatures and own Tome of Beasts, Creature Codex, or Tome of Beasts 2, be sure to check out the Kickstarter!

Hey there!
Southlands delivered a while ago - if you are seriously still waiting for your backer copy, send an e-mail to Kobold Press support (support.koboldpress.com) and they will get it squared away pronto!

I'm in Australia. As you're probably aware, getting the books here has been quite a saga.

I did finally get an email from the fulfilment house today though, that it should be arriving sometime next week (hooray!)

I know that all this mess has been out of KPs control, it's been a rough couple of years for shipping anything internationally. But perhaps a little more responsiveness and proactiveness on KPs part might have been nice. Last update on the kickstarter page was the week before Christmas, and said that Australian fulfilment was expected in mid January. There's been no further updates after that, and a question i posted in the KS comments a couple of weeks back wasn't answered. I know we're in a weird faraway corner of the world here, but it'd be nice to feel like we hadn't been forgotten.

I’m curious - what makes these monsters better? As in, what about the design is most appealing? Is it the concepts? The special abilities? The way they challenge the PCs? How does the kobold press design compare, for example, to level up design?
Sorry for the late reply, but as a long time DM I find myself using Tome of Beasts and Tome of Beasts II all the time. The quality of the design is uniformly high, the creativity in monsters inspires hooks and novel usage. The fill gaps in the officially published books often - oh, I need a humanoid undead near this CR, or what have you.

I'm really sparse in terms of what 3rd party resources I use when running 5e, but the first two have proven their worth for me.
