In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options from the Dragonlance setting. This playtest document presents the kender race, the Lunar Magic sorcerer subclass, the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, and a collection of new feats, all for use in Dungeons & Dragons.

Kender have a (surprisingly magical) ability to pull things out of a bag, and a supernatural taunt feature. This magical ability appears to replace the older 'kleptomania' description -- "Unknown to most mortals, a magical phenomenon surrounds a kender. Spurred by their curiosity and love for trinkets, curios, and keepsakes, a kender’s pouches or pockets will be magically filled with these objects. No one knows where these objects come from, not even the kender. This has led many kender to be mislabeled as thieves when they fish these items out of their pockets."

Lunar Magic is a sorcerer subclass which draws power from the moon(s); there are notes for using it in Eberron.

Also included are feats such as Adepts of the Black, White, and Red Robes, and Knights of the Sword, Rose, and Crown.

Yup, I've read them too, which is why I know how flawed they are. I wouldn't comment if I didn't know the novels/modules/setting books. Not that I've ever had to ban a kender, because I have never met anyone who wanted to play one, but I certainly think Tasslehoff Burfoot makes Jar Jar Binks look like the most loveable character ever.
how is it that people do not get that a comic relief character with no ability to pull their weight is just not a good idea?

It's still an unsubstantiated, and frankly highly unlikely, claim.
You think more D&D fans have read DL than not? Or the people complaining have mostly read DL?

Also considering most people involved in these chats (across the net) came To D&D with 5th Ed and probably never even really thought about DL until now? Keeping in mind there has been no real DL product since before 5E. What 3rd ed was the last time? Or was a novel out after 3rd?

I think that an awful lot of older D&D players have read Dragonlance - it was very successful back in the day. And younger players don't care so wouldn't be commenting.

But they do. As I pointed out in a previous post it’s not uncommon to see a post about “I’ve never read DL but I hear Kender are bad.”

WotC, just make a new setting dangnabbit.

You lucked onto a bunch of new fans and you are twisting old setting to sell it to them instead of selling new stuff.

The title sales it to the old fans.

Heck I may read it just see how much more they change and make less unique to the setting out of general curiosity.

Kender are Fey-Halflings. What are they going to do to Gnomes? Are Orcs and Drow a thing now?
Paladine is the same Bahamaut as everywhere else. Takhisis is the same Tiamat as well. Will the other gods be aspects of other well know gods from other settings?

Will the 3 Moon Magic gods finally have clerics? Do they no longer dislike Sorcerers (yes)?

I can’t wait see how they fit all the square pegs into the round holes. Will the spirit of the setting survive? Be interesting to see.

Maybe the gullys are dumbs by fault of negative pygmalion or golem effect. They could be retconected to be the parody of hippy comunes, with a look of okupa urban tribes. Maybe there were in the right place, but this was too utopian, and they became lazy and uncultivated, or they suffer a special supernatural lobotomy to block their potential psionic powers. Or they are the victims of a brain-drainer parasite.

* Could the heroes of the lance to become legendary or demigods in the afterlife? They were very famous in Absalom.

* In the past Dragonlance was the second most sold fantasy literary saga after Tolkien.

* The ursine as PC race could be interesting to sell action figures.

* Dragonlance is perfect for a new crossover D&D-Magic: the Gathering, but I wonder about the potential cultural impact of planewalkers in Krynn.

* Lord Sorth not only was responsable of the Catacylsm, but also other horribles actions after, for example the creation of the vampire kenders in Sithicus. Shouldn't he be punished? Let's imagine the faces of the souls of family and ancestors knowing that.

* Are there gem dragons in the Krynnsphere? Maybe there is a secret planar gate in the islands of the dragons.

* Are really useful the horns in combact for minotaurs? They need special helms, and hitting with the head is too risky, but in a grapple.
