2023 Quest Calendar A Space Fantasy RPG.jpg

2023 Quest Calendar 🚀 A Space Fantasy RPG from Sundial Games LLC
  • END DATE: Tue, March 22 2022 7:59 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $34 + S/H for the PDF and print calendar, the hero book, dice, and erasable markers
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This product is a page-a-day calendar that doubles as a solo RPG. Every day of the week and once a weekend, check the date and do what your character needs to survive. I was given one of the earlier versions of these calendars for Christmas a few years back. This page-a-day/RPG-a-day calendar is a lot of fun when you need a quick break. Pull off a day, play your character, make some decisions, roll some dice, and become curious about tomorrow’s adventure all before you get back to your regular day. Some days, I played one date, some days I picked up a week after realizing I’d stopped tearing off the pages. If you’re looking for an RPG gift, especially for the New Year, this gives a physical item and an experience that will last a year.

PIRATE BORG.jpg
PIRATE BORG from Limithron
  • END DATE: Thu, March 31 2022 11:59 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Mörk Borg
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $30 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of the book plus digital assets
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? It’s Mörk Borg with pirates. Commandeer a ship, pirate, and do what you feel for tomorrow you’ll most likely roll campaign ending doom. This book gives the core rules you’d expect plus naval combat rules. In addition, there is an add-on zine – 5e Bestiary Zine – that gives 5e stats for the book’s monsters and NPCs. That description probably decides the interest level of every reader of this column, not saying that in a bad way, Mörk Borg fans will have a great time with this product. But that doesn’t stop others from enjoying the world; pirates and RPGs are a good time. If you’re looking for pirates or Mörk Borg or both, check out the campaign page.

Fragged Empire 2nd Edition ttRPG.jpg

Fragged Empire 2nd Edition | ttRPG from Design Ministries
  • END DATE: Thu, March 31 2022 8:00 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: AU$40 for all of the PDFs
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Fragged Empire is back with new rules for the post-post-apocalyptic science fiction roleplaying game. After reaching out to the stars, the apocalypse had its day. Now, long after that doom, your people are returning to the stars, reconnecting with the forgotten, rediscovering the lost, and finding their place in the heavens. Inspired by Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, Farscape, and The Expanse, this game is space opera fun. The second edition offers a slimmer ruleset and more history to help ground your tales. If you’re curious, the campaign page gives a new overview of the rules, previews of the AAA level artwork and layouts, and a lot of depth about the setting.

Using the same model as their ENnie winning products, these books will help GMs looking for random ideas to spark adventures.

Something with an original system to bring the characters to life? Its system sports degrees of success ranging from what you expected, to major success, to limited success. In other words, you never fail, you just don’t roll as high as you might. If you’re interested, the campaign page has a preview quick start to check out.

Astro Inferno.jpg

Astro Inferno from Haxan Studios
  • END DATE: Sun, March 27 2022 12:06 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: €59 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of the book
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This project calls the book beyond grim dark and ends with initial pitch with, “You will die!” As you might guess, this fantasy RPG gets to the root of tainted characters adventuring in a ruined world. Using an original d20 system, one of the interesting aspects of this is the combination of character goals, journeys that focus on similar goals, and a related experience system. If you’re looking for darkness, death, and gorgeous art, check out the campaign page.

CinCityCon 2022 Tabletop Gaming Con (5th Year).png

CinCityCon 2022 Tabletop Gaming Con (5th Year)
  • END DATE: Sat, March 26 2022 6:50 AM EDT.
  • PROJECT TYPE: Tabletop gaming convention
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $40 for a badge to the full weekend
  • LOCATION AND DATE: Cincinnati, Ohio at the Sharonville Convention Center from October 7th to the 9th 2022
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This tabletop gaming convention offers a lot of solid RPG options. Per-COVID, they had 901 attendees in 2019, so it’s a nice sized tabletop gaming gathering. If you’re in the area in early October, it’s worth joining in for a few games. As a side note, at one point in time, this convention and Con on the Cob (also in Ohio), were on the same weekend this year. However, CotC moved to different dates. I’m glad to see that move as it’s better when conventions don’t undercut one another.

Everything must be Borg'd. At some point Borg will Borg itself and this will be a sure sign that the end is nigh.

An RPG inspired by Ghibli. A game where there is no possibility of failure though. I feel that is a niche concept. Also its not like things never go horribly wrong in Ghibli movies. I could see playing a game inspired by Beyond the Garden Wall with this I suppose.

Nothing really for me this week, but the heads up is appreciated. I am not famiilar with Fragged, but when I saw the book, I thought it said Fraggen haha. Furhaven is a cute idea, but I don't like the art (sorry).

There are several failure-less or super low failure rate RPGs. Sentinel Comics comes immediately to mind. 2d20 can often be run failureless - just success at 0 momentum in exchange for a complication. It's less exciting if that's done all the time, but there are people who like that style of play. Some of them on Modiphius' forums.
