D&D 5E D&D Summer Hardcover Amazon Placeholder

There's a D&D product placeholder for the summer hardcover up on Amazon. It doesn't say much, but confirms the release date as August 16th. There's some product dimensions there, too -- they match a standard D&D hardcover (except for the 2-inch thickness!) -- and an ISBN (978-0786968169).

[Update -- the US version of the placeholder has a price of $69.99.]

We'll find out more on Thursday when the D&D Direct video is released. Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse is on May 17th, and Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel comes out on June 21st.

From previous statements from WotC, we're expecting two classic settings to come back this year, and these will be in a new print format. WotC's Ray Winninger said in June last year that "Each of these products is pursuing a different format you've never seen before. And neither is "digital only;" these are new print formats." Current speculation, based on hints and teasers, is mainly centered around Spelljammer and Dragonlance.

Yup, that's why I thinkn5 books this year is likely, along with the new box set.
I don't think adding only another starter set constitutes a "higher release pace."

As I wrote above, I think this August release may verify that they're actually publishing 6 books this year, outside of the starter set - if it really is a hardcover and not the Stormwreck box set. Not definitely so, but I see an extra book as more likely than the possibility that they're breaking their September and October/November release pattern that has held true for the entire run of D&D so far, from 2014-21.

Now if we hear in a few days that the August product is Stormwreck, then we're probably back to 5 books. But even so, a "higher release schedule" likely means that even if we don't see six books this year, we likely will next year.

Well, while we know about Spelljsmmer coming from Chris Perkins, and Dragonlance from Wes Schneider...thst does leave three book lead staff members unaccounted for: ehst might Hsmmon, Wyatt, and Crawford be up yo?

So far;

  • Netherdeep released in March.
  • Monsters of the Multiverse will release in May.
  • Radiant Citadel will release in June.
  • Mystery book to be released in August.
  • Box releases... sometime.

So far this year, pattern is about a product every two months. Box could be released in September/October, another book (Dragonlance probably) releasing in Novomber December. That's likely the full slate, being 5 books plus a box, which is more products than last year.

We’re expecting two classic setting this year.
