And I would argue that many people buy/collect RPGs because of an emotional attachment to a setting or IP (including nostalgia), and not necessarily because of novel mechanics. I own a lot of RPGs that I unfortunately probably never will play. And judging from other posts I've read on ENWorld, I'm far from the only one.A couple of those do have some unique setting elements that might need some special mechanics- kaiju, space ships, super-soldier, mecha, etc.. But slow contagion zombies that get stopped by headshots aren’t exactly exotic. Arguably, my prior sentence sums it up sufficiently.
Don't have the G.I. Joe RPG yet, but I might get it someday strictly on the basis of nostalgia. Don't really care much how innovative the rules are, because I wouldn't run it and don't know anyone else that would, either.
Arguably, the previous three sentences sum up my position sufficiently. And for everyone's sake, I'll not pursue this debate further.
