Generally Discouraged (In-Person Gaming)

Unfortunately, I don't think any of that exists here. We don't even have a decent bar where you can get stuff that's not Bud Light. It's as if there is no place for adults in the community at all.
Most people have no clue how socially limited many bible belt communities are. Nor how socially conservative, even backward, they can be. The kids heading here (Oregon) for college from small towns are often in total culture shock. I've wound up talking to a number of them. Chinese exchange students, too...

Simply put, you're in the wrong place. Get that retirement, and move on.

I was pondering the idea that "there's nothing social here for adults" needs the addendum "besides the church/es." It would explain a lot.

Yes. Churches are a huge thing. Really, the only thing.
My mom called me last night to tell me that she won't be coming to our wedding celebration because we weren't married in the church (we eloped during the pandemic - just so we could financially protect each other in case of the worst; we're just now getting to the reception.)
So many times I've been passed over for promotion and been excluded from things because of religion. You're really cutting yourself off from the largest social structure in the area by not participating in the specific, very conservative religious structure here.

I'm increasingly convinced there aren't enough civil lawsuits being filed that target discriminatory behavior in too many parts of this country.
The problem begins with the reality that if one tries to sue over it, one can forget even getting cooperation at work, let alone any social interaction. Even the grocery clerk stops talking to you, or so I've heard.
