D&D 5E Who Are the Thri-Kreen?

Well, that's certainly not going to tamp down on the Dark Sun speculation.

I don't see how them saying that Thri-Kreen are mostly associated with Athas, and that they were a playable race in previous editions translates to a Dark Sun being in the works. Not to say that it isn't as it may very well be but to me those comments were just a reference to the Thri-Kreens history in the game. Myself, I'm not reading too much into it, but just my opinion.

They may or may not have a Dark Sun product in the works, but Athas seems to be appearing I'm the Spelljammer Adventure as one of the world's visited. See the thread from last week about D&D Beyond releasing a map with Athasspace on it before scrubbing or, and the Dafk Sun monsters already confirmed for the Spelljammer bestiary, etc.

I hate that they lost the abdomen they had in most 2E depictions, but that's not 5E's fault - it's 3E and 4E's. Just makes them look too "cheap B-movie/Power Rangers villains" rather than insect-people.

Otherwise it sounds like they're handling them fairly well and the "different in different worlds" thing and directly mentioning Dark Sun will indeed encourage speculation there, as @TwoSix says.
my love of biology agrees with you.

given we have heard very little about dark sun I would not be on it next year.

I wonder who the antagonist factions will be?

Beware the legions of Tum, mightiest of the Scro.
honestly, the scro should just be one type of bad guy we need several big ones who will happily kill you without so much as a thought and can't just be avoided, but also some who can be worked with as a bit of grey morality never hurt a setting.

Based on the miniatures, it seems that e.ain antsgoniat is a Space Elf Prince who is named in the title of the Adventure.

The speculation at the moment is that, based on the presence of Dark Sun monsters being in the Spelljammer bestiary, the Thri-Kreen here, and the poster they revealed that showed a location called Athaspace (replaced quickly by a version with the label changed to Doomspace), that Dark Sun is going to be the setting getting a cameo that has been hinted at. Athas being one of the places you can visit in the Spelljammer adventure book would fit with all of that information.

As stated Chris mentions he was looking at Darksun. But he was also looking at Starfrontiers.

I saw the map but didnt know that there were Dark Sun monsters in the Spelljammer bestiary. Guess we'll find out soon enough. Im not opposed to a portion of the adventure being set on Athas but it seems a little strange to me as that worlds material plane/crystal sphere was always extremely isolated from the other campaign settings. But its been so long I forgot the particulars on how to get to and from Athas, but I remember it not being easy.
