D&D (2024) Fate of the feral tiefling?

Whizbang Dustyboots

Gnometown Hero
Yeah, it's me, the person who likes the feral tiefling.

Sure, yeah, we all love Jester in Critical Role. She is a delight. (Truly -- she's why I ended up sticking with Critical Role once I saw how oh-my-god long the episodes were.)

But when I want to play someone who's descended from fiends, I don't want to be delightful. I want wings. I want hellfire or to be a silver-tongued devil.

That's not an option in the Character Origins UA, at least.

So, what happens to feral tieflings? Do they scrub the sulfur off their skin, put away their wings and join what passes for polite tiefling society? Do they show up in a future supplement?

And am I alone in being concerned about them? (Fun fact: They throw the best parties, although you are guaranteed to regret going in the morning.)

Yeah, you've touched on my main issue with Teifling too: the complete exorcism of their true nature as soul sucking hellspawn in favour of persecuted minority.

yeah sure I like the delightful traveller and the angsty goth as much as anyone, but I dont need an entire race of them.
I too want the maddening whispers, psychological terror and flesh rending hellfire

Can "fallen" ardlings represent a feral tiefling?

The wings are there, and the face can be feral. Especially, if the feral descends from both tiefling and ardling parentage.

I mean I'm pretty sure their fate is just "keep existing as a forgotten/obscure option until some rando book redoes them", so yeah the latter.

And no I'm concerned too. I actually have a winged Tiefling in one campaign, who I really love playing.
