I don't disagree, but the distinction in question - that the more odious aspects of such a fantasy setting are there to be fought against, rather than bought into - isn't one that strikes me as being recognized by the push to have such things removed altogether. Anything which contravenes contemporary humanist morality is taken as something which shouldn't be present, whether it's recognition that orcs are innately different from humans, that evil sorcerer-kings will use their magic to create slave races, or that it's morally good for the benevolent gods to hold that all people are collectively guilty for the hubris of their leaders.

One minor nitpick. The issue isn't that orcs are innately different from humans. That's never been the issue. The issue with orcs is that they are a stand in for very real world bigotry and use the same imagery.

Let's talk about the character people are really talking about when they want Murder Bats, noted supervillain, Frank 'The Punisher' Castle.

Even at his worst, as Heaven's Arsenal where he was straight up mercing jaywalkers, he wouldn't huck a grenade into a crowd of innocents to kill that dirty jaywalker.

How many times does it have to be repeated that no one, not even those in character in the setting, consider the Cataclysm to be a "good act"?

One minor nitpick. The issue isn't that orcs are innately different from humans. That's never been the issue.

Reading a lot of these posts and it just blows my mind that some of them boil down to "We can't imagine a world like this thus we don't want it/it needs to change."

That's really sad.

Reminds me of a discussion i had about Old EU Luke Skywalker vs Disney Sequels Luke Skywalker. I found old EU Luke "better" because he never gave up, became a good teacher and even got married and had kids. Compared to Disneys take where when things got hard he simply gave up while his friends and family fought and died in a new war. The person I was talking with said "Disney Luke is more realistic" which i found really really sad.

I mean seeing the world today, i get it. Wanting Luke to be "realistic" or Krynn to "adjust to current modern values", i get it. Just seems like the death of creativity to me. shrugs.

You keep approaching this from the perspective they COULD do something more than they did. There's a post of mine about a half dozen posts ago that provides the possibility they couldn't do anything for one reason or another.

They took away the Kingpriest magic. They sent signs. They tried to send a Knight to talk sense into the Kingpriest. They removed all True Clerics as yet another sign.

Putting aside other topics like kender, gully dwarves, or Goldmoon, how does the Cataclysm as vaguely described as it is actually create a controversy for them to avoid in a product? I've read a bunch of criticism of people not liking the idea for one reason or another, but no one has presented anything that would seem to be in the same league as the hadozee or vistani type scenario unless I'm missing something.
