Again, it's not a binary option. They can aim products at newer players while also providing options aimed at experienced players.

Also just because you're an experienced player doesn't mean you're experienced with 100% of the ruleset equally nor does it mean that some aspects of the ruleset won't become less used and therefor less 'second nature'.

Plus I know that sometimes rereading books on subjects I'm familiar with can sometimes lead to new inspiration or revelations on missing knowledge for me. While I know this is a personal anecdote I know others like that and I'm sure there are many I don't know.
It feels like that's what @Micah Sweet was asking for ?

Azzy kind of sounded in reply that since old editions has such things old players didn't need anything more.

And then Micah made the comment you are replying to

Color me dumb on this, but when it comes to world-building, what is the difference between a new-player and an experienced-player facing product? Aside from more handholding, I fail to see much difference. I can see a difference between a book of simple vs complex (the difference between using the rules as is vs heavy modification), but I also don't equate experience with desiring complexity.

So what am I missing?

EDIT:
Actually, it's like he thinks he's in a lot of different sci-fi movies from the 20th century but he can't decide which one. IIRC he also at one point said that the Matrix was real.

Just as a side note there is a theory that we are living in a simulation. You can read more about it here or just google "are we living in the matrix" but the basic idea is that an advanced civilization could create simulations so good that it would be indistinguishable from reality. There are some measurements that have been made that this theory can explain that are more difficult to explain otherwise.

So while it's an unusual theory it's not "my cat is an alien" wacko theory, some serious scientists propose that it is possible or even likely.

I asked for products for both, but it seems people only care about new players.

Hyperbole goes both ways.
Some things can't be everything to all players, and this, I believe, is one. Novice players don't have the experience or existing products (like the World Builder's Guide) that you and I already have. They need this kind of support more than we do, so focus on them and grow the hobby.

I don't get why experienced players are so aghast at there being products that cater to new players—especially when most D&D products don't or do a poor job of it.

I would suggest this is beyond "my cat is an alien". My opinion of course. This feels like a theory that was spawned because someone saw a movie coupled with that person not being satisfied with their life or view of the world. Not much gravitas to that. Occam's Razor applies here I think.

It is a serious theory that happens to use The Matrix as an easy way to communicate the concept. Also off topic of this forum.

Although if it is true (not saying I believe it, I don't think it matters) but it's also possible we could get an upgrade someday. So if the AI running the matrix is listening I have some ideas about what kind of character I want to be next. :)

Dude, I say this with love, but you are the Eeyore of this board. Not everything has to be an extreme or a dark cloud. There is not a bogeyman waiting around every corner.

All you see is 'catering to new players' translating to 'ignoring my needs as a player who grew up playing this game'. The two can co-exist. Especially if you don't treat additions directed at new players as hostile to you.

See, now I'm intrigued. It still seems super wingnut to me. But I will look into it.
