The Purpose of the + in Thread Titles

I think for me it’s simply this: not everything has to debated and sometimes framing the focus of a conversation can be productive. There’s nothing stopping people starting new threads to debate the aspects they’re interested in.

Sometimes, just let people have the conversation they want to have, eh? You don’t have to be this guy!

I'll leave a final post here, I'm not advocating for the removal or any changes to + threads. I'm just stating that I find a few things problematic about them and its entirely on me to navigate that. The only hope is folks may be more mindful in the future when making them. Though, folks are certainly free to do whatever.

Would it be acceptable to start threads about e.g., exploration in RPGs with a (+) indicating that 5e may not be discussed to avoid baggage and keep things inclusive?

I always assumed it just meant "keep it positive, folks" and have tried to respond accordingly. I guess "don't argue with the thread assumptions" is a good way to focus discussion but has the potential to shut down reasonable debate on the subject as well. In general I try and state my intentions in a thread I start clearly in the OP -- which half the responders don't read, and the other half immediately argue with. So whatevs.

I think the idea of the + thread is that it is acceptable and want to talk about exploration in general and not have 5e come up. The problem when you ask people to do this is that more people use 5e it appears and that is the system they know best or play the most. I think you would need to make a statement about what edition or game system you would be talking about.

To just say, "Exploration sucks" as a thread title and "Comments" with a + in the thread box would not help. I think you would get more helpful answers to let everyone talk about exploration and just say something about edition waring instead.

I have a related question. I rarely post as I've only been a reader of D&D threads for several years.
What does the phrase "A-game" mean in the thread title?

I think it’s an RPG.net thing. Those threads usually get a lot of mod attention to make sure the discussion is high quality.

Edit: But I don’t see a similar thread there, so I don’t know. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think that's a bit of a crowbar of separation between "reasonable debate" and "actually you're wrong and you and your players are too sensitive"
