I think a generic animal folk race is a solid idea. Having them all fly and be a celestial is a hat on a hat on a hat.I think a DnD twist on a generic animal folk player option is a good idea. I'm not 100% sold on the Ardling as that option, but I am conceptually interested.

As mentioned above, what about kobolds and goblins? Very popular choices eternally relegated to supplements.
