D&D (2024) Pulse check on 1D&D excitement level

I'm cautiously cautious. It wouldn't take much for me to jump back onto 5e. A tweak here. More interesting levelling there. But I'm not seeing it and I'm not feeling it. But come the day I'll take a look.

I am pretty pleased with 5e overall. For me this was a solution looking for a problem.

For those that hate 5e, this was not what the doctor ordered. I don’t think it will tank but I think it will disappoint. We shall see. I am not buying it

If you like 5e, why wouldn’t you buy it? It is just more 5e.

I think too many people are expecting this to be 6E, which it's not meant to be. This is going to be a revised 5E, using the same sturdy chassis with upgraded add-ons. If you don't like 5E, you're not going to like this. Since I love 5E, I'm loving the playtest.

Yeah, they've been extremely transparent about this, and no one seems to believe them.

The people who want WotC to change nothing proclaim that 1D&D is clearly a full new edition and people, weirdly, are believing them over WotC and then getting mad that WotC is delivering about what they promised to, rather than what the detractors are alleging.

I do not like what I have seen in the Playtest packets that much.

If it is the same but I don’t like whatever minor changes, not really much impetus for a purchase.

I played some 3.0 without upgrading to 3.5 so realize I might also be an outlier.

Basically I'm not seeing enough major changes that I like to think it's worth the cognitive load of making a complete change or the financial cost of a new set of books. I'll probably end up going through the SRD when it's updated and might mine for some houserules, but overall will probably stick mostly to what I'm used to since I'm still relatively happy with it.

Well, it looks like more 5e (including doubling down on some parts I didn't like in the first place) and I'm severely burnt out on 5e. So unless they follow @Eyes of Nine and secretly swap it out for a polished version of 1e, I don't see myself being interested in it at all.

I am interested to see what they end up with and pretty much from the start said I would “steal” innovative ideas.

I play a lot of blade pact warlocks that smite and love those critical hits for one thing

Excited. As always when new things are coming.
I was excited at 3.0, 4.e, essentials, 5.0, LevelUP and now OneD&D.
I was even excited at pathfinder and pathfinder 2e, but they are both not my cup of tea. Yeah, new rules to dig in are always fun.
