D&D (2024) Does anyone else think that 1D&D will create a significant divide in the community?

If they had the ability to make more money by switching fully to CCGs, they should have done so a long time ago, then.
Most FLGSs I know do make most of their profit off of card games. It would be silly, however, to dump all their other stock in favor of them. RPGs don't make as much money, but I enjoy them a heck of a lot more.

Just 2024 5E going forward
That makes sense. It's going to be extremely hard to stock the 2014 game, even if they wanted to, after a few months. I can't imagine they have a lot of shelf space devoted to 3E books, for instance.

Are they saying they won't allow you to run a 2014 5E game at all, or that you have to let players use the 2024 PHB with it?

Because at this point, I think one could use the 2014 stuff with the 1D&D stuff we've seen and, if you had the books in protective covers, very few players would be able to tell.

They are saying once the 2024 5E core rule books are released, games run in the store will have to use the 2024 rules and options. 2014 5E games and options will no longer be allowed to be run/used.
Do they understand that the game will be, to a great extent, compatible? Even at the most extreme examples of what we've seen, an adventure published in 2016 or 2020 will still work just fine with the 2024 rules. WotC will be continuing to sell those, as we've seen with the new mass-market version of Tyranny of Dragons.

I was thinking the same. Will they go around slapping books out of peoples hands if they are not 2024?

It would seem the thing to do is to request that games be run using the OneD&D revisions, while allowing players to still use compatible materials from 5.0.

My impression is that they think it will force sales. That if they don't cut off 2014 5E, everyone will just keep playing 2014 5E and will not buy the new core rule books.
OK, I'm back to thinking these people are dopey.

WotC is going to make the 2024 core books really attractive. I'd expect 50th anniversary boxed sets with special art and things like gilt edges and bound-in bookmarks, fancy slipcases and the like.

Worrying about gamers not picking up the 50th anniversary editions of Dungeons & Dragons is like drug dealers worrying junkies aren't going to buy the latest strain.
