Yup. Big fan of the written word here.Plenty of people use the written word to cover the same things the video people do, and get more reads than the video people do (SlyFlourish, Alphastream, NewbieDM, ENWorld)
A sad state that we've come to, that."We still invite people who don't 100% agree with us," seems to be an excellent messae for WotC to send with this.
Yeah, well, these days video content seems to have the bigger sway, and probably reaches the desired audiences more effectively than written articles.
Reminds me of Girl Least Likely To: "She lives for the written word/ and people come second, or possibly third..."Yup. Big fan of the written word here.
A sad state that we've come to, that.
I know the first two from their videos, the third one not at all.. but yes, if you are thinking about people writing articles then I agreePlenty of people use the written word to cover the same things the video people do, and get more reads than the video people do (SlyFlourish, Alphastream, NewbieDM, ENWorld)
We all have our preferences. I like to read. To me, video's supremacy as a method of communication now is a sad state of affairs.I don't accept that it is sad.
The written word is a great thing, but it is not somehow fundamentally superior to other media of expression. Modern video/audio has the distinct advantage of giving access to vocal tone and most of the nuance available from facial expression and body language as well, which tends to yield more effective communication.
They outrank directors in television. (Look up the DGA complaining about getting bullied by writers in the current writers pre-strike discussion in Hollywood.)As a writer, I've come to accept that writers don't count as people in any industry. Even publishing. Especially publishing.
