The planet where people here are claiming kids get $30 a week as an allowance. I've never heard of it that high, but there are multiple articles out there that put it at $15-$30 a week for a 15 year old, though they generally have to do chores to get it.

You're also talking about employed teens. We're discussing the vast majority of teens who don't work and rely on allowance.
A lot of teens work in the US, to many IMO. That being said, mine didn’t have jobs (mostly, my youngest got a job as a research at the State University by accident basically) in HS. Nor did we give them an allowance. We did however basically buy them anything they wanted (except video games).

My point is there are millions of teens (in the US alone) and a lot of them have access to more disposable income (through numerous sources) than one would think. D&D really only needs to capture a faction of that.

And the most important thing is that those teens may become “whales” in the future. I spend a lot more on D&D now then when I was a teen ( even if it was my parents money), but I wouldn’t have spent any of it if I wasn’t a D&D player when I was a teen.

There are a lot less books coming out now than when we were kids too! Multiple releases a month at 15-20 bucks is about $34-46 now. I know I bought at least 1 a month and almost every new major boxed set that came out. They were 30 in about 92 and that is the equivalent of $70 in today’s cash.

I know, I know. His work just never felt like D&D to me. I can’t help it! I was much more an Elmore BW from the BECMI series fan
I get it. I like Elmore too. There is just something about Erol that says “D&D” to me though. Moreso than the rest. I also tend to identify with Moorcock, Vance and Ashton-Smith for my fantasy than with Tolkien (unless it’s his own trippy art) and other fantasy artists of the high fantasy variety. Though I do love me some Angus McBride artwork. More Bakshi trippy than Disney clean (not disneyfied, Black Cauldron is dark).
