I mean, I don't think the design-intention would normally be to "murder everyone on the bridge", but there are potentially situations where possibly killing people left on the bridge would be less bad than leaving miscreants on the bridge. Equally it could be used to vent goo or gas or whatever.Isn’t that what transporters are for? Flat out murdering everyone on the bridge seems a bit extreme.
Sure transporters can move people, but they're constantly getting messed-with, and even in Trek they clearly have tech to work around them. I guess I find it reasonably plausible myself, given the numerous other bizarrely-specialized-seeming things we've seen Starfleet ships do - many of which Okuda was able to come up with good explanations for in various technical manuals.
