D&D (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

There's a brand new playtest document for the new (version/edition/update) of Dungeons of Dragons available for download! This one is an enormous 77 pages and includes classes, spells, feats, and weapons.


In this new Unearthed Arcana document for the 2024 Core Rulebooks, we explore material designed for the next version of the Player’s Handbook. This playtest document presents updated rules on seven classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. This document also presents multiple subclasses for each of those classes, new Spells, revisions to existing Spells and Spell Lists, and several revised Feats. You will also find an updated rules glossary that supercedes the glossary of any previous playtest document.

Sure, customers can be wrong about all sorts of things. But figuring out how to please the majority and make as many sales as possible is the nature if the beast.
I'm just saying that what the majority wants doesn't necessarily always outweigh the minority as my example showed. The majority in my example wanted say 5.5e, but the minority were where the company wanted to go. ;)

Crawford has said on a number of occasions that people might know they have a frustration, but that doesn't mean they know the fix. So these tests identify the frustration points, and put out various solutions to find out what soarks joy. Crawford and Co. were pretty clear back in August that they didn't expect a lot of the early tests to cut the mustard, because this ain't their first rodeo
 

This is the argument that basically says that minorities don't matter, and this argument extends in a far broader reach that I think people would disagree with if they thought about where it ends.

"What does the majority want? Because if a majority wants it, it can't be wrong." has been proven to be wrong throughout history.
Yeah, history has counter-examples, too—like the minority that was noble class in late 18th-century France.

You're implying by using this as a response to me that the examples are roughly equal on both sides. They aren't. Minorities have gotten the short end of the stick far more often than majorities have.

Sure, and minorities (ruling classes, clergy, oligarchs, etc.) have been the source of wars, oppression, etc.

The point is, it's a complete farce to compare the majority/minority in the gaming community to the serious issues and suffering that people experience/have experienced outside the hobbiest bubble.
 


Yeah, for a game company, the right of minorities protected is...they can go a different game or make their own? WotC doesn't owe anyone a particular style of D&D, they just owe their stockholders a successful product. Happily a success product is one that sparks joy for as many people as possible, but not everyone has to like it...and they won't.
 

In any case, ignoring a chunk of your audience is leaving money on the table. As long as the ROI isn't horrific, there's money to be made on catering to people, unless WotC is convinced that people will leave the game out of sheer spite for people getting what they want in addition to what already is being made.

The only difference is scale/severity. The base concept is the same. Majority enforcing its will on minority.
