Oh no, I don't disagree with that at all, I'm saying that simplicity is expensive in terms of design space, and that cost is rarely reckoned because it gets treated as a general good, usually with "but think of the new players overwhelmed by all these things!"That feels like a way to excuse both bad writing and bad design.

Getting snobby about coffee is basically just hunting incremental improvements, and the most improvement you'll ever get comes from grinding your own beans & buying fresher light roasts. Everything else is marginalia.
