I definitely feel that trains and other such technology should exist on the planes, I think trains only existed in Ravenloft back in 2e.
Agreed, but then the Eberron fan in me has long grown used to the Lightning Rail.

Trains don't need to be ubiquitous, but I can see plenty of places where they'd fit in just fine - I particularly love the idea of heavily armored trains roaring across the hinterlands of Avernus as part of Baator's Blood War supply line logistics.

I think a train is fine on the planes. Flying trains that lay down their own tracks aren't better than airships, though, and make a lot less sense than airships. The Golden Vault train is trying too hard to be cute.

Airships can't add extra passenger/storage space as needed, though... Not "better" by any means, just a different style and aesthetic that works for some and not for others.

End of the day, just blame the modrons... They created and are running the thing.

Yeah, you'd just add a second airship.

I suspect it's more about the desire to have the structure of a train robbery and the image of train tracks being laid down just as the train needs them.

But hey, I don't own Golden Vault and I have no desire or ability to stop people from having that train in their games.
