Not everyone has the desire or the player resources to replace (let's call them "overly-casual") players. Heck, "not fully utilizing PC capabilities" is hardly the worst habit we have to put up with, either.
But many of us do have both. I am not inclined to put up with much when it comes to my hobbies.
 


Unpopular opinion: Is there really much difference between the two? Horrible science, hackneyed plots, etc.

Some of these strong opinions about solo RPGs look suspiciously like they come from people who've never played a solo RPG.
I mentioned elsewhere Solo RPGs are like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. This is pre-teen stuff, for me now, so not interested in anything similiar today. Makes no sense. D&D Basic tried a solo adventure with Blizzard Pass where you revealed text with invisible pen. And it failed because I just scrubbed everything taking away the surprise element.
To me, an RPG is for a group experience, not a loner experience. But to each their own, I suppose.
