Yes, it went against WotC and Hasbro's own self-intetest, and alienated invested customers. Hence why the turnaround and conclusion was so dramatic and final: long-term self-interest won out over short-term thinking.
no. All through the 3rd edition days people KNEW it w as a shaky thing, but wotc proved you could trust them on the OGL.

People took a chance and stepped out with OSRIC as an experiment almost daring wotc to sue them, they prepared for it! And WotC showed you could trust them over the OGL.

Throughout 4e's impending release when Dragon and Dungeon was pulled, they left the OGL alone, probably when it was at it's weakest. And the rise of Paizo and Pathfinder.

Then even as they showed their disdain for the OGL they left it alone and went on a wild GSL experiment that blew up on them too.

Then with 5e they said "were going to do 5e OGL, patience, trust us" and at least one third party company did and went ahead with stuff. And they then DID release a 5e SRD under the OGL.

Again and again and again. Decades of it.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me you missed @Parmandur's point

While true, and I agree, I keep seeing people talk about Dragonlance as if that stuff doesn't exist for Dragonlance. I imagine no matter what comes out at DMSGuild it'll be the same kind of thing for Planescape.

I think DMSGuild needs to advertise it more.
As long as it's out there I don't care how popular it is, but I agree DMGuils could really use some better marketing.

Opinions will differ of course, but I would view as deeply inadequate and incomplete a Planescape product that didn’t cover, y’know, the planes. I mean, it’s right there in the title…
So incomplete like the original
